Tomato Pappu / Dal


Ingrediants:
  1. Toor Dal / kandipappu - 1rice cup
  2. Water 2 and 1/2 rice cup
  3. Turmeric - 1/2tsp
  4. Chopped Tomatoes - 3/4th Tin
  5.  
    salt - a pinch

Chilli powder: 1tbspn

 

For Popu:

  • Oil - 2tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 3/4th tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 3/4th tsp
  • Red chillies - 4no ( split in to half )
  • Curry leaves - 1sprig
  • Garlic - 3no. ( smashed and sliced )
  • Asafoetida or Hing - small pinch


Procedure:

1) Cook Ingrediants in pressure cooker until soft upto 5 whistles.

2) Take a kadhai, heat oil in it. add mustard seeds when it is stopped poping add cumin seeds when it is starting to brown . add curry leaves, red chillies, garlic and fry, add hing  in the last, mix well.

3) Add chilli powder and salt, cook until mushy.

4) Add cooked and mashed toordal.


5) Add the popu to it.

6) Cook it until starting to boil. Check for salt and serve.
